Years of muscle contractions or movement in certain areas of the face such as between the eyes, forehead and crows’ feet can cause your skin to furrow and fold and even linger after the muscles are at rest. Aging and environmental assaults, such as too much sun, stress and pollution, or lack of hormones affect not only the way your skin looks and feels, but also your skin's health. As your skin ages, the turnover of skin cells slows significantly, throwing off the balance between the growth of healthy new skin cells and the sloughing off of old damaged skin cells. Collagen and elastin begin to slowly break down and the body’s naturally occurring moisturizer, hyaluronic acid (HA) beings to diminish. This loss of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid along with daily exposure to UV light causes the skin to lose its resilience, resulting in lines, wrinkles and sagging folds as well as uneven pigmentation. INJECTABLE PRODUCTS: Botox® and Dysport™
For the treatment of wrinkles caused by repetitive movement in these areas:

1. Glabellar Lines or the “11’s” between your brows from repeated frowning or furrowing the brows together.

2. Forehead Lines – the lines in the forehead from repeated muscule movement such as raising the eyebrows.

3. Crows’ Feet – the lines around the eyes from repeated smiling and squinting.

BOTOX® Cosmetics by Allergan® and Dysport™ by Medicis Aesthetics are both purified proteins that work by blocking nerve impulses, which reduces the movement of the muscles in glabellar, forehead and crows’ feet. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smoothes out, and the moderate to severe wrinkles begin to fade. Both products are recommended in adults less than 65 years of age for the treatment of these “dynamic” wrinkles. The treatment is minimally invasive and nonsurgical. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief with only localized pain, inflammation, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. Continued treatment every 3-4 months is necessary to keep the muscle movements reduced. The amount of BOTOX® Cosmetics or Dysport™ needed for treatment varies from one individual to the next.

INJECTABLE PRODUCTS: Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm XC
For the treatment of wrinkles and loss of volume in these areas:

1. Smile Lines (Parentheses) or nasolabial folds run vertically from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth.

2. Marionette Lines are vertical facial wrinkles and folds that form below the corners of the mouth. These lines can sometimes give the appearance of sagging and or a downward turned expression.

3. Vertical Lines are facial wrinkles above and around the lips that can begin to appear over time due to ordinary lip muscle movement. However, environmental factors such as exposure to sunlight, smoking, drinking from straws or sports bottles and stress can also contribute to how the area around the lips ages and the formation of vertical lip lines.

Restylane, Perlane and JUVÉDERM® are safe and natural cosmetic dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance already existing in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. But as one ages, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in the skin. The lack of HA causes the skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds (the parentheses), marionette lines, and vertical lip lines.
